BARBARA GAWEL, ADMINISTRATOR
She hails originally from Poland, emigrating to the U.S. in 1989. She graduated from Tri-State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Barbara has over 20 years’ experience working in the Senior Living industry. Over the years, she has served at the helm of several assisted living, memory care and nursing home communities located in the South Bend area. Barbara loves helping and working with elderly people.
Currently she resides in Osceola with her husband, Casey. They have one daughter and two wonderful grandchildren, Kyrin and Olivia. In her free time, she likes to spend time with family and especially enjoys boating, hiking and travel.
SHERRI PURCELL, WELLNESS DIRECTOR
Sherri became a nurse in 2009. She worked mainly in the geriatric communities: assisted living, memory care, skilled care, and psychiatric. She enjoys caring, and advocating for the elderly. Her husband is a South Bend firefighter. She has three kids. Rylee, the oldest daughter, graduated from Penn High School this year, son Keagan is a sophomore at Penn High school and the youngest daughter Sydney is in 5th grade at Elsie Rogers Elementary. She likes spending time with family and friends. Her hobbies are reading and playing bingo and slot games on the computer and baking.
MARLENE MALOTT, SALES & MARKETING DIRECTOR
Marlene joined the Tanglewood Trace Team fall of 2016. She brings a strong background in sales and marketing to this critical position on the Tanglewood Team. Marlene also has a compelling reason for opting to bring her skills to the senior living market. Having experienced loss first hand, she wants to help others live fully through their senior years. Marlene has a solid understanding of building relationships, frequently bringing a smile to our resident’s faces, while warmly greeting everyone she encounters. As a mother of four young adults, she understands the daily demands of families and will strive to meet scheduling demands when touring our community. Spending time with family and friends are of extreme importance to Marlene. She also enjoys live music, a fine dinner from time to time, and getting back in touch with her artistic side.
KRYSTAL AKE, BUSINESS OFFICE DIRECTOR
Krystal joined the Tanglewood team as the Business Office Director. Coming from a background in mortgages at a small town credit union, she has good business acumen. Krystal is ecstatic about this new road ahead and hopes to make an impact in the lives of each resident at Tanglewood Trace. She resides in Elkhart, where she was born and raised. Krystal and her boyfriend of many years have 3 beautiful children to always keep things exciting. In her spare time, she enjoys outside adventures, attending sporting events and most importantly spending quality time with her friends and family.
LISA SANDERS, ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR
Lisa has been working in the assisted living field for over five years and absolutely loves it. She began as an activity assistant, and later was promoted to activity director. She says that seniors occupy a special place in her heart and she thrives on bringing them joy. Lisa prefers to think of the residents as extended family. She has lived in the Mishawaka area her entire life. She feels blessed with a great family and two amazing children. In her free time, she enjoys going to concerts and spending time with family/friends.
JENNIFER FINK, DINING SERVICES MANAGER
Jennifer was born and raised in Mishawaka on a large farm with lots of animals and many chores to do. Upon graduation from a local high school, she entered the food service industry. No stranger to hard work, Jennifer began her career as a cook for the Head Start program preparing meals for 1200 children daily. She worked her way up into management, attaining a Dietary Manager Certification (C.D.M.) and has been specializing in senior services ever since. Jennifer loves her job and especially working with the senior population. In her spare time she enjoys riding her horses, gardening, reading and of course spending precious time with family.
BRENDA BAUDLER, MAINTENANCE DIRECTOR
Brenda has been in the health care industry for 18 years. She started out in an assisted living and memory care building in Chicago. While there, she served in a variety of positions: Maintenance Director, Marketing Director, and Memory Care Director. In 2013, she transferred to Indiana. Prior to entering this field, she was a carpenter for 18 years. Most of her life has been spent in the Chicago area, but she also lived for a time in Atlanta, Georgia, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Brenda has been married for 31 years and has one daughter who is a zookeeper. In her spare time, she likes to garden and sew, mainly creating quilts. She enjoys the work she does and says the residents always make her days interesting and unpredictable.
AMBER VITE, SALES COUNSELOR
Amber joined the Tanglewood Trace family in December of 2017. She graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication with a focus in Public Relations. During her college experience she raised over $10,000 for charity, she was involved in several non for profit organizations and went on two overseas service trips. Amber discovered her roots right here in South Bend while being raised working at her family owned restaurant. As a young adult Amber knows the value of unbreakable bonds with senior customers. This was the onset of creating her love to work with the elderly. Amber loves hanging out with her family and three year old cat Rosie. She is an avid Cubs fan and leaves a little sparkle behind wherever she goes.
